Hot day!

Sunday, May 30, 2010
What a hot day it was today... such a big difference from Friday's windy afternoon!  We packed up our stuff this morning ready for a hike with Matt.  But after hanging out with Matt and Leo for awhile, we realized that it was just too hot for a hike!  I shouldn't complain though, as I have been complaining about the gloomy weather.  So we made the best of it.

We did some "work" first by helping Matt prune the rose bushes.  M&M had their own shears and Matt trusted them with their roses!
Did you know about the 5 leaves rule?  I just learned today!
Of course, E wanted to help as well!
Less than 10 minuets later.. they needed a break!  It was too hot!
Morgan got hold of the watering can...
After watering the roses, she started to make some "puddles" for the boys to splash in while they wait for Leo to finish his project.  He promised them some excitement with the sprinklers once he was finished.  This will explain why they are in shorts now.
The boys are loving the puddles activity!
But then... MG got a bit creative!
MD's turn!
She didn't discriminate, she gave herself a splash as well!
Then Uncle Leo was finished with his project... here he comes!!!!
RUN!!!!
And then the sprinklers were turned on!
Wet, wet, wet!!!  But fun, fun, fun!!!
Uncle Leo's project complete!  Aren't the colors beautiful???
We had a great day with Uncle Matt and Uncle Leo.  After getting wet and then drying off, we had lunch -- tri-tip sandwiches!  Because of MD's obsession, we watched Star Wars V.  It was a learning experience for me.  I finally understood a few things that MD has been rattling off to me!

We came home, had cheese pizza for dinner... and a few games of Wii before crashing!  He didn't last that long after a game of Mario Kart.

Our Weekend...

Saturday, May 29, 2010
Began with a great afternoon at the park with friends Friday afternoon:

The Daisy Girls!  (Who are bridging to Brownies in a few weeks!  My, how they have grown!)
E said, "Hey there Buddy!"
Always the first to get sopping wet!!!  We love this park during the hot summer days because of this water feature.  Although it was in the 70's today, it was still quite windy!  Yet, they still wanted to get wet!  They had a blast!
Today (Saturday) we had a wonderful breakfast with Jim, Clare, and Corinna -- yummy French toast, sausages, and strawberries!  We then went to the library and checked out some new books to read.
E has been having some issues remembering colors, so we checked out this cute book by Nancy Tafuri:
Then we practiced sketching our favorite character -- luckily they all liked different ones!  I copied the pictures so that they each had one to look at to avoid arguments of someone hogging the book!

After sketching, we worked on outlining or tracing with a black marker:
Then finished with adding colors and detail.  We also discussed foreground and background.

She had lots of details that she wanted to add:
Their finished products:
He wrote "red hen" by himself.
I asked her to write more than just a few words.  She wrote 2 sentences to make this activity more age appropriate for her.
When M&M were finished, I had to give E a one on one so he could stay focused!
He started with sketching the body parts of his duck:

Then "outlined" with a black marker -- gee, he "traced" pretty well,  no?  Oh well, he really did try and he did it all by himself!  I loved how he drew the wings in the right place, but when he outlined in black, he just drew 2 circle for the wings!  I also love the legs and "toes" as he calls them.
He finished with the details.  The duck was white, so he didn't need to do much else besides coloring in the orange beak and the one eyeball.
He is very proud!
And MD is still on his Star Wars kick!  He is now checking out chapter books!  No, he does not actually read them!  But it's cute to see him trying!  MG reads a lot of different chapter books (Rainbow Fairies still her favorite series) so he's trying it out too!
We ended the evening with movie night (Up!) -- with home popped popcorn, of course!

That's the weekend so far!  We are taking it easy and relaxing since Vince is busy with weddings this weekend.  Let's see what tomorrow has in store for us!
