Our Weekend...

Saturday, May 29, 2010
Began with a great afternoon at the park with friends Friday afternoon:

The Daisy Girls!  (Who are bridging to Brownies in a few weeks!  My, how they have grown!)
E said, "Hey there Buddy!"
Always the first to get sopping wet!!!  We love this park during the hot summer days because of this water feature.  Although it was in the 70's today, it was still quite windy!  Yet, they still wanted to get wet!  They had a blast!
Today (Saturday) we had a wonderful breakfast with Jim, Clare, and Corinna -- yummy French toast, sausages, and strawberries!  We then went to the library and checked out some new books to read.
E has been having some issues remembering colors, so we checked out this cute book by Nancy Tafuri:
Then we practiced sketching our favorite character -- luckily they all liked different ones!  I copied the pictures so that they each had one to look at to avoid arguments of someone hogging the book!

After sketching, we worked on outlining or tracing with a black marker:
Then finished with adding colors and detail.  We also discussed foreground and background.

She had lots of details that she wanted to add:
Their finished products:
He wrote "red hen" by himself.
I asked her to write more than just a few words.  She wrote 2 sentences to make this activity more age appropriate for her.
When M&M were finished, I had to give E a one on one so he could stay focused!
He started with sketching the body parts of his duck:

Then "outlined" with a black marker -- gee, he "traced" pretty well,  no?  Oh well, he really did try and he did it all by himself!  I loved how he drew the wings in the right place, but when he outlined in black, he just drew 2 circle for the wings!  I also love the legs and "toes" as he calls them.
He finished with the details.  The duck was white, so he didn't need to do much else besides coloring in the orange beak and the one eyeball.
He is very proud!
And MD is still on his Star Wars kick!  He is now checking out chapter books!  No, he does not actually read them!  But it's cute to see him trying!  MG reads a lot of different chapter books (Rainbow Fairies still her favorite series) so he's trying it out too!
We ended the evening with movie night (Up!) -- with home popped popcorn, of course!

That's the weekend so far!  We are taking it easy and relaxing since Vince is busy with weddings this weekend.  Let's see what tomorrow has in store for us!
